Happy Wednesday!
This is a reminder for tomorrow (HALLOWEEN!) that there should be NO toy knives, toy guns, or toy weapons brought with costumes. If costumes include masks, students will be asked to take them OFF during school time for safety reasons. We will be busy with a full day of Halloween / spooky inspired activities! If you have been making any more cards for Cade at home, please bring them TOMORROW so Ms. Weintz can take them to mail them. We have a few in the classroom - but not one from everyone! Tomorrow students will be writing an agenda message letting families know if we WILL or WILL NOT be visiting a wetland on Friday. Please look in agendas / on here for that announcement! Tonight is the Halloween dance and tickets are available at the door for $5.00! Happy Monday!
Important Reminders: Tomorrow we are having a quiz on writing COMPLETE SENTENCES. Remember, a complete sentence needs 2 things: a subject (who / what the sentence is about) and a predicate (the action). You will also be expected to use proper punctuation! This should be a breeze with all the class work we've done as practice! HOPEFULLY we are going to do a walking field trip to a wetland on Friday. This will be weather dependent, and confirmed on Thursday. If we do go, students will need boots (preferably rubber), and a warm jacket. If you are available and would like to come as a parent volunteer with us, please email me to let me know! [email protected] Grade 5/6 boys have a volleyball tournament this weekend! See previous post for details. The Halloween dance is on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30. Students are invited to dress up for the day at school on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31. Please remember there should be NO: toy weapons or masks that fully cover the face. A final reminder: please ensure agendas are coming to school each day, and students are charging their devices at night at home. Grade. 5 Volleyball boys:
The volleyball tournament is next Friday, November 1, 2019. The boys and girls teams will both be playing in Airdrie at the “tri-school” site. This location includes George McDougall High School, Ecole Edwards Elementary School, and Ecole Airdrie Middle School. The tournament begins at 3:00pm and a schedule of games will be sent home as soon as it is available. Homework (only applies to some students): I have a science project to work on this weekend. I have a math sheet to finish this weekend. AMA art today! Happy Thursday!
A reminder for families: Ms. Weintz is away Friday, October 18 - Tuesday, October 22. I will look forward to seeing you at our goal-setting conferences on October 23rd! If you have not already booked a time, please ensure that you book yourself a time slot online. If you are unable to attend, please email me and we can set up an alternate time. Ms. Weintz: [email protected] We would also like to as a class wish a HUGE congratulations to Luke, who was recognized today as one of the Students of the Month in our school! In our classroom, we have a PRIDE Bingo board, with 25 acts of kindness. Over the month of September, Luke accomplished atleast one act of kindness each day, earning a full blackout and an early playground dismissal for his classmates. We are very proud of Luke. Way to go! An update on our current learning: This week, students started an exciting new project in science where they are designing either a new plant or animal, with adaptations so that it can live and thrive in a wetland! In math, we have been working through a review still of addition, subtraction and place value concepts - doing lots of practice and playing an assortment of games. In social studies, we have watched 6 short videos - one on each of the 6 different regions of Canada! Next week we will be starting some project work in social studies writing about these regions. In Phys Ed. we are wrapping up our cooperative games unit and preparing to start volleyball. In language arts, we've been working on building our writing stamina and will be diving deeper into our narrative writing unit. We have also started a new novel study and are currently reading, 'Wonder'! Students have been practicing how to RAP when they answer questions - (repeat key words, answer the question, provide proof). In health, we are continuing to explore stress and anxiety management techniques with the Stepping Stones program, and exploring topics around friendships and bullying. Have a safe and happy weekend! No school FRIDAY OCTOBER 11 (PL Day), OR MONDAY OCTOBER 14 (Thanksgiving)!!!
Have a happy and safe weekend! See you Tuesday, October 15! Ms. Weintz |
