Today we began exploring our second strategy for solving BIG division problems. The lattice method! This was a method we also explored when learning about multiplication, and every student felt success with it. Today - on our first day of exploring it, a lot felt immediate confidence! I would encourage you to watch this video at home, too, and explore this strategy with your child. This video will also be available on our math page - along with many other videos, and videos of past concepts and lesson material, too. Happy Friday!
We wrapped up a wonderful week with an AMAZING debate! I want to congratulate every student on their hard work and enthusiasm. Today we debated 'The Great Tomato Debate: Fruit or Vegetable?' as we wrapped up our opinion/persuasive writing unit in language arts. The students worked with our grade 9's doing research, and after a week of preparation, debated in front of our 7, 8, and 9 foods students, and to an audience of judges. Every student shared their voice, and ultimately - both arguments were so convincing, we had a split decision! On Monday, we will look forward to a class celebration where we will celebrate both teams and all of the hard work that went into preparing for this. This was not about winning or losing, but about convincing and persuading - something each student did successfully! Today was a challenge, and I'm immensely proud of each student!
